Aerospace — 3
Industry-wide negotiations—Our ultimate goal is to sit at one table and bargain with the entire North American aerospace industry. This is one industry and we are one work force and we should plan and act accordingly.
The second phase of the Aerospace Department’s program of “organizing the unorganized” continues. Our Business Representatives and Grand Lodge Staff are targeting the major and secondary employers throughout North America performing aerospace related work.
Additionally, we are continuing to aggressively pursue our organizing efforts in the Service Contract Act arena, an area where we have been highly successful in not only organizing but also in achieving increased standards in new collective bargaining agreements.
The potential for continued growth in this segment of the aerospace industry remains very optimistic. The Aerospace Department’s overall goal is to bring the same benefits and working conditions that our members currently enjoy to the rest of the industry.
All of the efforts outlined above and the commitment of this great Union at every level is summarized in the Aerospace Department’s slogan: “Jobs, Security and Prosperity.”
To ensure this program succeeds, we must rely on our front line union leadership—the IAM Shop Stewards. To date, over 4,000 IAM Shop Stewards have attended the IAM Aerospace Stewards Training Program. This uniquely designed ongoing training program extends to all of the stewards of the IAM-represented workers in the aerospace industry.
Advanced technology and techniques in training are a major asset for our 82,000 IAM aerospace members. Through this process, the educated, organized and motivated aerospace members of North America are acting together to seize control of their common destiny and build a bright, exciting and secure future for our members and their families.
Assisting greatly in all our rounds of collective bargaining within the aerospace industry is communication with our members.
