Automotive — 6 Greyhound Lines Greyhound Lines has done an excellent job of bringing the company out of bankruptcy. It has been in the black the last couple of years and continues to grow. Laidlaw purchased Greyhound Lines in 1998 (they already owned Greyhound Lines of Canada), and they kept the current Greyhound management with whom we have a good relationship. The IAM contract was settled for all locations in October 1999. The package included improvements in all areas with 3 percent wage increases for each year of the contract. Health and welfare and pension contributions are substantial; therefore, our membership will have maintenance of benefits for health and welfare with improved pension benefits. United Parcel Service UPS is a highly successful company with a worldwide reputation for quality service. IAM members help maintain that reputation. Nationwide voting on a new agreement between the IAM and United Parcel Service (UPS) concluded in March 2003 with all 21 IAM local lodges casting ballots on the historic national accord. The ratified agreement covers nearly 3,200 employees in 36 job categories and boosts wages and pensions while establishing an innovative investment trust fund to help offset post-retirement medical costs. Boysen Anderson, IAM Automotive Coordinator and lead negotiator for the national talks, stated, “We used a national, coordinated bargaining strategy to give our members at UPS the full benefit of their union membership.” The new agreement includes a common expiration date of July 31, 2009, for members at all UPS locations. Under previous agreements, expired contracts were renegotiated separately. previous|home|next |
