The 2000 Election Period

There was a new record set in General Fund contributions in 2000 when MNPL raised $2,488,033.99 in General Funds (Voluntary). This was $354,542.99 more than the previously set record in 1999.

Educational Fund contributions amounted to $656,342.05, which was a new record beating the old record set in 1999 by $140,959.91.

When you add the income from the General and Educational Fund contributions in 2000 the total figure amounted to $3,144,376.04, which was $6.78, a member (a new record set per member).

2000 U.S. Senate Races
There were 33 U.S. Senate races in 2000—15 held by Democrats and 18 held by Republicans. Out of these 33 Senators, 4 Democrats and 1 Republican retired and did not seek re-election. MNPL made contributions in 27 of these seats. Of these 27, MNPL candidates won in 14 and lost in 13.

The U.S. Senate seats in 2000 ended with 49 Republicans and 51 Democrats. (Sen. Jeffords abandoned the GOP and switched to Independent status. Jefford’s defection gave the Democrats a razor-thin 51-49 Senate edge.)

2000 U.S House of Representative Seats
Out of the entire 435 seats up for reelection in the U.S. House of Representatives, MNPL made contributions in 263 seats. Of these seats that MNPL contributed to 180 were incumbent seats with 177 of these incumbents winning re-election. MNPL made contributions in 81 non-incumbent seats with 13 of these candidates winning. The final line up that year for the House of Representatives was 223 Republicans; 210 Democrats and two Independents.

2000 Gubernatorial Seats
There were 11 Gubernatorial elections in 2000. MNPL made contributions in 4 of these races. The two won were Gubernatorial elections in Missouri with candidate Bob Holden and in West Virginia with candidate Bob Wise. The two MNPL contributed to that lost were Montana candidate Mark O’Keefe-Williams and North Dakota candidate Heidi Heitkamp.

The 2001 Election Period

2001 Total Contributions to MNPL:
In 2001, MNPL income in the General Fund amounted to $2,295,237.63. This was $192,796.36 less than the record year of 2000.

Education Fund income amounted to $560,940.00. This too was down from the 2000 record year by $95,401.06.

Total income to MNPL amounted to $2,856,178.62, which was $6.32 per member. This was also down from the record year of $6.78 per member.

2001 Gubernatorial Races
There were two states with Gubernatorial races in 2001. These were New Jersey and Virginia. MNPL made contributions in both of these Gubernatorial races. The candidates that the MNPL contributed to were both successful; Virginia candidate Mark Warner and New Jersey candidate Jim McGreevey.

The 2002 Election Period

2002 Total Contributions to MNPL:
In 2002, MNPL income to the General Fund amounted to $2,178,237.51. This was $117,000.12 less than last years total.

Education Fund income amounted to $528,193.23, which was also down from last year’s total by 32,747.76.

Total income to MNPL amounted to $2,706,430.74 for 2002. This is a decrease from last year’s total contributions in the amount of $149,747.88. However, the cents per member is up from last year of $6.32 per member to $6.70 per member.

2002 U.S. Senate Races There were 34 U.S. Senate seats up for re-election in 2002—13 held by Democrats and 21 held by Republicans. MNPL made contributions in 23 seats. Of these 23, 10 were incumbents and 13 were non-incumbents. Of the incumbents we contributed to seven won re-election and of the non-incumbents one won the election and 15 lost.

The U.S. Senate seats in 2002 ended with 51 Republicans and 48 Democrats and one Independent.

2002 House of Representatives
All 435 U.S. House of Representatives seats were up in 2002. MNPL made contributions in 244 of these seats (170 were incumbents and 74 were non-incumbents). Of the 252 we contributed to 153 of the incumbents won and 17 of the non-incumbents won.

The new line up after the 2002 elections was 229 Republicans and 205 Democrats and one Independent.

The 2002 Gubernatorial Races
There were 36 Gubernatorial elections in 2002. Of these 36 seats, 13 were held by Democrats and 23 by Republicans. MNPL made contributions in nine of these races. Of the nine, seven won and two lost.

The 2004 Election Period

In the 2004 Election cycle there are three Gubernatorial races in 2003 in Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi. MNPL contributed in all these races with our candidate winning in Louisiana with Kathleen Blanco. The other two races were won by Republicans.

In the year 2004 election cycle there are 11 Gubernatorial races up with seven presently held by Democrats and four held by Republicans.

In the year 2004 there is the U.S. Presidential race, 33 Senate seats (currently held by 19 Democrats and 14 Republicans), and all 435 U.S. House of Representative seats up for re-election.
