Ohio Local Holds 17th Annual Ride for the Guide
With thunderstorms nipping at their boot heels, more than 300 riders took part in the 17th Annual Ride for the Guide on June 28. The event, hosted by Local 1297 in Ashland, OH, raised more than $10,000 to benefit the Guide Dogs of America (GDA).
Labor Statement On GAO Report
We are writing to express our strong support for the Boeing KC-767 as the refueling tanker for the U.S. Air Force.
By sustaining Boeing’s protest of the flawed award to the Northrop Grumman/EADS Airbus tanker, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), showed the KC-767 to be the clear winner in the competition, and, as such, the refueling tanker contract should be awarded to Boeing without delay.

57-year member Ruth Cain is Sister of the Month
Ruth G. Cain joined Local 475 in Grand Rapids, MI, in 1951 and remains a very active member today, more than 57 years later. Employed at RC Allen Business Machines in Grand Rapids as an assembler and Quality Control Inspector, Cain became more involved after winning a grievance filed by her shop steward in 1962.
Machinists, Connecticut Officials Urge Bush to Reconsider Tanker Contract
Machinists, business leaders and state officials gathered at the Connecticut state Capitol last week to announce that the Connecticut General Assembly is sending a letter to President Bush urging him to reconsider the U.S. Air Force’s decision to award a $40 billion aerial refueling tanker contract to the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. (EADS).
Michigan Card Check Speeds Autoport Contract
Employees at Autoport Limited in Pontiac, MI, recently voted unanimously to join the IAM and voted 100 percent to ratify a first agreement. The three-year accord features increases to wages, a solid health and welfare plan at a minimum cost to members as well as participation in the IAM National Pension Plan.
Machinists at BIW Ratify Agreement
Bath, ME, May 18, 2008 – Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local S-6 in Bath, ME voted today to ratify a 4-year contract with Bath Iron Works, securing wage increases of 3.5%, 3.8%, 3.8% and 4.0% over the life of the contract.

IAM Local 447 member Jerry Oberymeyer received praise and thanks for his decisive action to save a life. Brother Oberymeyer, a driver for Pumpernickel Express was making a delivery in February when another driver for Pumernickel Express, also making a delivery collapsed.

BIW Ship to Honor U.S.M.C. Cpl Jason Dunham
Friends and family of Cpl. Jason Dunham, a 22-year old U.S. Marine who sacrificed his life to protect fellow Marines in Iraq, were on hand for a keel laying ceremony at Bath Iron Works (BIW) in Portsmouth, ME. The event marked the start of construction of a DDG Arleigh Burke class destroyer that will carry his name.
