Minnesota IAM Union Members Connect with Public at State Fair

For more than 50 years, IAM Air Transport Local 1833 has proudly represented the IAM Union at the Minnesota AFL-CIO House of Labor Pavilion during the Minnesota State Fair. The pavilion serves as a hub where fairgoers can learn about the benefits of union membership, meet union members from various trades, and experience the strength of Minnesota’s labor movement.

The House of Labor Pavilion is open for all 12 days of the fair and features live music, union displays, and educational outreach. IAM Local 1833 joins dozens of other unions, including AFSCME, USW, UFCW, MNA, SEIU, IBEW, CWA, and many more.

The IAM Local 1833 booth highlights their connection to the airline industry, displaying model airplanes, a donut press donated by a fellow IAM Business Representative, and a tribute to the IAM’s favorite charity, Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. The booth has also provided a welcoming space for Delta Air Lines ramp and flight attendant organizers to connect with coworkers and learn about union representation.

“Our members in Minnesota show the true spirit of the labor movement at the state fair,” said IAM Air Transport General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “By connecting directly with the public, educating them about the value of union membership, and standing in solidarity with other unions, they are helping strengthen the voice of working people everywhere.”

For IAM Local 1833 President Mary Sansom, the annual event has become a tradition. “I have been doing the state fair for at least 20 years, and the best part is seeing my brothers and sisters at the AFL-CIO Pavilion, making new friends, and supporting one another,” said Sansom. “It’s a great time building solidarity with family, friends, and union family.”

The IAM Union invites all working people to stop by the House of Labor Pavilion at next year’s Minnesota State Fair to say hello and celebrate the power of working people coming together.
