On Workers’ Memorial Day, observed annually on April 28, the IAM Union gathered at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, Md., to remember workers killed or injured on the job.

During the ceremony, IAM members who died over the past year were remembered as their names were read aloud, alongside their families and union brothers, sisters, and siblings.

IAM Resident General Vice President Jody Bennett addressed attendees, noting that 15 names were added to the IAM Workers’ Memorial, including five members who lost their lives on the job.

“That is five too many,” said Bennett. “Far too many workers are still losing their lives simply for going to work, and that must never be acceptable. It is our No. 1 duty to protect our Brothers, Sisters, and Siblings.”

A recent report from the AFL-CIO underscores the ongoing need for stronger workplace protections, noting that many injuries and fatalities remain preventable decades after the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

As the IAM honors those lost, the union remains committed to fighting for safer workplaces for all workers.
