The IAM Union Wood Pulp and Paper Council recently hosted the 7th annual “Chillin’ and Grillin'” BBQ Fundraiser, bringing IAM members, cooks, and supporters together to raise funds for the IAM’s favorite charity, Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC).
The annual event has raised $18,575 so far, with donations still coming in through the fundraiser’s donation portal. Organizers say the event reflects the IAM’s commitment to supporting one another and giving back to causes that make a difference in people’s lives.
On the 15th, a Zoom call was held in which cooks and supporters gathered online to meet Jeffrey Belenzon, a military veteran and recipient of a GDA service dog named Sailor. Belenzon shared how Sailor has made a life-changing difference in his daily life, giving participants a firsthand look at the impact of their fundraising.
The 2026 BBQ competition featured 18 cooks, with Andrew Peltier taking the Grand Champion title. Ben Moody finished second, while Nick Moody placed third. Dave Lehive captured first place in the Pork Rib category, while “Kendall” won Chicken Champion, and Ben Moody took Cook’s Choice.
The fundraiser received strong support from IAM leadership, labor organizations, corporate sponsors, and IAM territories across the country. Sponsors also donated numerous prizes for the event’s raffle, adding to the excitement and helping make the fundraiser a success.
With the 7th annual “Chillin’ and Grillin’” now in the books, organizers are already looking ahead to the 8th annual fundraiser, seeking feedback from participants on how to make the event even bigger and better.
