Two Illinois Machinists Injured in Casting Facility Blast

Two members of IAM Local 660 in East Alton, IL were injured in what is being described as an explosion in the casting facility at Olin Brass. One member was taken to the hospital, treated and released. Another was transported by helicopter to a St. Louis hospital and is in serious condition.

Details of the accident have not been released as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and others investigate the cause of the blast.

IAM Local 660 has 765 members at Olin Brass. Global Brass and Copper Holdings, Inc. bought Olin Brass in 2007. The mill continues to churn out the copper alloys that have been the foundation of the Olin Brass legacy since July 1892.
