Within days of a strike that would have shut down the nation’s largest commuter railroad, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), its partner the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and union coalition members today announced a tentative agreement has been reached with the Long Island Railroad (LIRR).

The six and a half year pact calls for 17 percent in wage hikes, full retroactive back pay, medical contributions reduced from the Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) recommendation of 2.25 percent to two percent, with no retroactive contribution.

“I’d like to thank all coalition members for their support and patience during these four long years of negotiations,” said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “Your negotiating committees were able to reach a fair agreement due to your unwavering solidarity and steadfast resolve to get a fair contract.”
