IAM District 70 organized 109 aircraft mechanics and other technicians at the Beechcraft Service Center in Wichita, KS, in the wake of a card check recognition agreement with the company. A third-party local minister oversaw the card check process and confirmed majority support for the IAM.
The organizing win adds to the several thousand members of Local 774 at Textron Aviation, which now includes both Cessna and Beechcraft.
Southern Territory General Vice President Mark Blondin said the hard work of District 70 Organizer Juan Eldridge was key to this win for the workers.
“It was obvious that the Beechcraft Service Center workers wanted the benefits of an IAM collective bargaining agreement and the card-check process provided a means to move quickly and negotiate a first agreement,” said Blondin.
