IAM’s Gittlen Appointed to MassDOT Board

District 15 Business Representative and New England Area Director Russell Gittlen has been appointed to the MassDOT Board of Directors.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker recently appointed IAM District 15 Business Representative Russell Gittlen to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Board of Directors.

“With Mr. Gittlen’s appointment, all of the seats on the Board of Directors are now filled with members who bring to the table skillsets that are diverse, experienced, and well-rounded,” said the governor. “I want to thank Russ for joining the Board and look forward to the full Board engaging in a thoughtful, constructive dialog about how we move our transportation system forward in a way that benefits the Commonwealth’s economy and our quality of life.”

Among his responsibilities as a member of the board, Gittlen will be reviewing the challenges and problems with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and making recommendations for improvements. His experience as an IAM negotiator dealing with global transportation companies in the region brings MassDot a working class perspective.

“We are pleased that one of our members was chosen to join the board,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President Lynn Tucker, Jr. “Russ Gittlen truly understands the transportation industry and brings valuable insight to MassDOT.”

Gittlen has been an IAM member for nearly 30 years. He worked as a mechanic at United Parcel Service and progressed his way into leadership positions in the union. In addition to his role as a business representative, he serves as the New England Area Director for District 15.
