More than 70 workers, including 19 IAM members, are locked out of their jobs at Clifford-Jacobs Forging Co. in Champaign, IL. The company is demanding a four-year wage freeze and reduced company health insurance and pension contributions from IAM, IBEW and Boilermakers’ union members at the plant.

Members voted down the company’s concessionary offer after month-long contract talks broke down.

“We had strike authorization but we chose to go back to work and the company is not allowing us back in,” IAM District 8 Business Representative Ron Stanley told the (Champaign) News-Gazette.

Clifford-Jacobs workers have been joined by local community members in an around-the-clock informational picket outside the plant, about a two hour drive south of Chicago.

Canadian-owned Clifford-Jacobs, which was founded in Urbana, IL, has been located north of Champaign since 1923. Workers at the plant make steel forgings for Caterpillar, FMC, Mueller and the aerospace industry.
