IAM Welcomes New Members in Montreal and Toronto

Montreal Local 712 is welcoming 10 Goodrich UTC integrators who work on Bombardier CSeries aircraft engines.

Ten aerospace employees of Goodrich UTC in Montreal and 11 employees of Airport Operations Support Services (AOSS) at Toronto Pearson International Airport are the newest IAM members in Canada.

Eleven new members who set up and modify customer service stanchions at Pearson International Airport Toronto Local 2323.

The new IAM Local 712 members at Goodrich UTC, a Bombardier subcontractor, are integrators for Pratt and Whitney engines on the new Bombardier CSeries aircraft line. They work alongside other Local 712 members employed by Bombardier.

“Proximity to IAM members on the job and the engagement of the membership were key assets to this organizing campaign,” explained IAM District 11 Organizer Philippe Lapointe.

At Pearson International, the new IAM Local 2323 members work to set up and rearrange portable stanchions lines at check-in and customs stations in terminals one and three to accommodate fluctuating numbers of passengers.

“It has taken almost a year of setting the stage for unionization of this small group of people at one of our existing unionized companies, AOSS, but today we were successful in bringing 11 new members into the union fold,” said IAM District 140 Organizer Sam Jabbar.

The parent group already operates five separate companies, three of which are represented by the IAM. The IAM is the largest union at Pearson Airport and the largest in the Canadian air transport sector.
