Vancouver-area IAM District 250 held its first-ever Guide Dogs of America golf tournament, successfully raising more than $36,000 for the charity.
“We had over 75 golfers and more non-golfers for the dinner,” said District 250 Business Representative Al Cyr. “All of those who attended told me they had a great time and they would be back next year. I am sure that the number of participants and the dollars raised will only increase in the future.”
“Al Cyr was the driving force in this endeavor,” said District 250 Directing Business Representative Walter Gerlach. “All the district’s business representatives, the secretary-treasurer, office staff and volunteers did a great job in having this event come off as successfully as it did.”
“I would really like to thank all of our sponsors, members and guests for what they have done to help make life just a little bit better for those who are visually impaired,” said Cyr. “This money we raised will help make someone’s life better and we feel good about that.”
IAM District 250 represents a varied cross section of skilled trade shops, including machining and fabrication, heavy equipment, commercial transport and automotive dealerships throughout British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.
Guide Dogs of America provides guide dogs and instruction in their use, free of charge, to blind and visually impaired men and women from the U.S. and Canada so that they may continue to pursue their goals with increased mobility and independence.
