Act Now to Save Union Voting Rights

The House of Representatives is poised to vote this Thursday, March 31, on legislation containing a provision that would repeal the new voting rules for airline and rail workers issued last year by the National Mediation Board (NMB).

The repeal provision is hidden deep within the massive FAA Reauthorization bill (H.R. 658) and would replace the new rules with the old system of counting any worker who does not cast a ballot in a representation election as an automatic “No” vote.

Your help is needed in an all-out effort to remove the repeal provision from the FAA Reauthorization bill when it is considered by the House of Representatives.

Click here to urge your Representative to support an amendment proposed by Ohio Republican Rep. Steven LaTourette that would remove the repeal language and preserve the voting rules that allow a simple majority of those voting in air and rail union elections to determine the outcome.

To be successful, all Democrats and at least 25 Republicans must vote in favor of Rep. LaTourette’s amendment. Many Republicans have already indicated their reluctance to support a right-wing campaign to eliminate fair voting rules for the nation’s air and rail workers.

“Last year’s change to NMB voting rules was rightfully hailed as a major victory for workers’ democratic voting rights,” said Transportation GVP Robert Roach, Jr. “The effort to reverse that achievement is yet another effort by a coalition of extremists seeking to restrict, reduce and eradicate collective bargaining rights nationwide.”
