Advanced Leadership Class Hits the Road

High winds, driving rain and the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida weren’t enough to deter a bus load of Advanced Leadership participants who traveled from the Winpisinger Center in Southern Maryland to Jenkintown, PA, to support an IAM organizing drive at SPS Technologies.

“This was a wonderful opportunity and experience,” said Daleville, AL, Local 2003 member Adam Beasley, who took part in the organizing effort. “Many of these brothers and sisters have never had the chance to participate in an organizing drive. Helping workers in their struggle against an unjust employer is what the IAM is all about.”

The Leadership Class students handed out literature and spoke with the workers at SPS, who manufacture specialty fasteners, engineered fasteners and fastening systems for critical applications in aerospace and transportation.

“Many thanks to the participants and staff at the Winpisinger Center who volunteered to help on this organizing drive,” said Eastern Territory GVP Lynn D. Tucker, Jr. “It is good to know that the future leaders and activists of this union understand the importance of organizing new members.”
