Americans’ Support for Unions Increasing

A new Gallup poll shows that Americans’ approval of labor unions has jumped five percentage points to 58% over the past year, and is now at its highest point since 2008.

The poll also indicates the percentage of Americans saying they would like labor unions to have more influence in the country has also been rising.

In an encouraging trend, younger Americans between 18 and 34 showed the highest approval of labor unions at 66 percent. Women favor unions over men by 63 to 52 percent.

Geographically, the East and Midwest are most favorable towards labor. And, not surprisingly, Democrats overwhelmingly approve of unions with 79 percent, while Republicans approvals are only 42 percent.
