AMTRAK APPROPRIATIONS CONFEREES APPOINTED Listed below are the appointed Senate & House Conferees on the Appropriation Committees who will be negotiating the FY 2003 Omnibus Appropriations bill. It is absolutely critical that we contact each of the conferees listed below and ask them to support the full funding level of $1.2 billion for Amtrak, which includes Senator Murray’s (D-WA) amendment adopted in the Senate on January 16th without objection. Now that the conferees have been appointed they are expected to start negotiating next week. In the interim, the following Democratic and Republican “Dear Colleague” letters are being circulated through Congress requesting signatures in support of full funding for Amtrak at the requested $1.2 billion for FY 2003. These letters will be presented to the conferees on Monday, February 3, 2003. (click here to view the Republican letter) If your member of Congress is already a signatory on one of these letters please call and thank him of her for their support. However, if your member of Congress is not a signatory on one of these letters, please call their office and ask them to support the full funding amount of $1.2 billion for Amtrak on the House floor and to sign-on to their respective parties letter. |
