Borough of Honesdale Public Works Employees Seek to Join the IAM

HONESDALE, PA, October 11, 2023- The dedicated Public Works employees of the Borough of Honesdale have taken a significant step towards securing better wages, improved benefits, enhanced working conditions, and the respect and dignity they deserve in the workplace. Their collective pursuit of these vital improvements has led them to seek representation with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

The Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board has officially recognized the IAM’s petition for an election. This recognition is the first step for Borough of Honesdale Public Works employees to achieve their goal of respect and dignity in the workplace.

“We stand firmly behind the dedicated and essential employees of the Borough of Honesdale Public Works,” said IAM Eastern Territory Special Representative Brent Coleman. “Their determination to secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions is commendable and aligns with our commitment to advocating for the rights of workers across Pennsylvania.”

“Our union has a long history of championing the rights of workers who serve local governments, and we look forward to the opportunity to have the Borough of Honesdale Public Works employees join the  IAM,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “Together, we will work tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard, their concerns are addressed, and their aspirations for a fair and equitable workplace are realized.”

The IAM will attend a preliminary conference call to hear any issues to be raised by the Borough of Honesdale, such as the scope of the bargaining unit. The Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board will then hold a hearing to address any issues on November 3, 2023, followed by the scheduling of an official election date.
