Bring Your Child to Work Day Connects Future Workers to IAM

More than 20 children participated in the 2016 Bring Your Child to Work Day at IAM Headquarters. The students learned about the IAM and what Machinists around the country produce.

IAM Headquarters took part in Bring Your Child to Work Day and designed an educational and fun-filled program for the students. More than 20 children in grades 1-12 spent the day learning about the IAM, what kind of work goes on at headquarters and what our members make on the shop floor.

When asked what they want to be when they grow up, the students gave a wide range of responses – police officer, doctor, nurse, lawyer, professional soccer player, Army Ranger, scientist, flight attendant and even a WWE wrestler. Most were surprised to learn the IAM represents members in many of the fields they were interested in.

“I think it’s incredibly important for us to educate our youth on the American labor movement and unions in North America and here in the United States,” said IAM International President Bob Martinez. “I just want to thank the young men and women who came and joined us on Bring Your Children to Work Day, I hope you enjoyed it.”
