Charlie Hines Appointed IAM Grand Lodge Auditor

Charlie Hines, a longtime IAM activist and leader from Charlotte, NC, has been appointed as an IAM Grand Lodge Auditor. Hines will service lodges in North Carolina, Virginia, southern Maryland, and the District of Columbia. The appointment was effective February 1, 2023.

Hines had served as an Air Transport Territory Associate Organizer, where he continued his work assisting on numerous organizing campaigns. He initiated into the IAM as a Fleet Service Agent for US Airways, where he was elected Shop Steward.

He served as Vice President of the North Carolina AFL-CIO Executive Board and Secretary-Treasurer of the North Carolina State Council of Machinists.

“I know Charlie is going to continue his long track record of tremendous service to our union in this new role as a Grand Lodge Auditor,” said IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes. “Our members will be well served by the passion, knowledge, and expertise he brings to this job each and every day.”

In 2013, Hines was elected as the only delegate of the Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council to represent the interest of 50 local unions at the AFL-CIO National. At the IAM Southern States Conference, he received recognition for organizing efforts from then-IAM Resident General Vice President Robert Martinez Jr.

“We have a sacred duty to continuously monitor and regulate how the IAM is using its resources on behalf of our membership,” said Paul Kendall, IAM Assistant Secretary to the General Secretary-Treasurer. “Charlie has served at every level of our union and will be a huge asset to our team and the Districts and Locals he serves.”

Hines’ training includes the completion of Leadership I, II, & III, Train the Trainer, and Social Media 1 at the IAM’s William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center. Hines has also been a strong advocate and supporter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the Coalition of Black Trades Unionists.

Hines, a Pennsylvania native, has three daughters and two grandsons. He is a passionate community advocate and has volunteered to help local elementary schools and provide supplies and meals to those in need during the holiday seasons.
