U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) recently visited with IAM and TCU/IAM Rail Division members at the Belt Railroad shop in Chicago.
IAM Local 478 (District 19) President Mike Lemon and TCU/IAM Assistant National Representative Keith Schlamadinger had the opportunity to introduce Casten to machinists and carmen on the shop floor.
Along the tour, members spoke with Casten about the Railway Safety Act, low staffing concerns, sick days, and the importance of inspections after the East Palestine, and many other, derailments. Casten reiterated his full support on these important issues.
The IAM Rail Division is currently engaged in all these fights, including pushing Senate Republicans to support the bipartisan Railway Safety Act.
