URGENT: CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN NOW ABOUT AMTRAK

ASK THEM TO SUPPORT THE AMTRAK REAUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2005 AND THE RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION ACT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY.

Two important bills that will save Amtrak and the thousands of good paying jobs with benefits were introduced in the House of Representatives on April 14th. These bills would provide the needed funds to make Amtrak viable not only this year, but also into the future.

If Amtrak becomes insolvent, not only will thousands of commuters be stranded, but also thousands of workers including TCU members would be out of a job. An Amtrak shutdown would also have a disastrous effect on our Railroad Retirement System. The Railroad Retirement Board has stated that the financial loss of 20,000 Amtrak employees would bankrupt the system. We cannot allow this to happen!

I strongly urge you to contact your Congressional Representative TODAY!! Ask him or her to support the Amtrak Reauthorization Act of 2005 and RIDE 21 as these bills are taken up by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. If your member is not on the T&I Committee ask him or her to offer support for the bills to those other members who are on the Committee.
