Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I entered the workforce in 1977 at age 18. The company manufactured compressor valves and components. During my 21 years at this job, I was trained to operate various grinding, milling and turning machines.

One event that changed my life occurred in 1986. Co-workers at my job decided they needed a union, The Machinists Union. The organizing drive was successful and we had a signed contract by 1987. The contract guaranteed better wages and benefits that helped improve the living conditions of my family and my co-workers families. In the early 1990’s I was elected as Chief Steward at my shop and eventually held elected positions at the Local Lodge and District Lodge levels. In 1998 I entered the Organizing Apprentice program and was appointed as a Special Representative in the Organizing Department in 2000. On April 1, 2003 I became a Grand Lodge Representative.

Today, like the Machinists organizer that helped my co-workers and I back in 1986, I am helping others improve their working conditions, gaining dignity and respect on the job and generally improving the standard of living for themselves and their families.
