District 19 Hosts Successful 9th Annual Guide Dogs of America Southeast Championship Charity Golf Tournament

IAM District 19 hosted its 9th annual Southeast Championship Charity Golf Tournament at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club on June 3, 2024. The event raised an astounding $74,000 for the IAM’s favorite charity, Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines.

The tournament saw participation from many members of the IAM’s leadership team, including Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen, Special Assistant to the International President Josh Hartford, District 19 President and Directing General Chairman Reece Murtagh, District 19 Secretary-Treasurer Marty Rosato, several District 19 General Chairmen and District 19 administrative staff.

IAM District 19 General Chairman and Event Organizer Heath Jacobs led the district in organizing the charity tournament.

“I was impressed with the support and participation for the event by all levels of the union,” said Jacobs. “Not only did members volunteer, but family and friends of members also volunteered their time to make this event successful. It makes me proud to be a part of such a great organization and help change the lives of our members one dog at a time.”

The top two teams won prizes and prizes were also awarded for exceptional performance for “closest to the pin” and “longest drive.”

This event featured two GDA | TLC recipients, one being a visually impaired recipient and the other being a facility dog recipient. Both recipients delivered a heartwarming speech about how GDA | TLC has changed their lives while expressing gratitude towards GDA | TLC.

GDA | TLC Assistant Director Tony Blevins also addressed the attendees, expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support from District 19 and all the participants in making this event so successful.

“GDA | TLC is doing amazing work for the community and I’m looking forward to next year’s tournament,” said District 19 President and Directing General Chairman Reece Murtagh.
