Re: Paid Sick Days
Sisters and Brothers:
As you may know, we were informed today that both the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division (BMWE) and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC) have recently signed agreements for paid sick leave, we are happy to see that these agreements have been made. District 19 has been in discussions with all carriers where members do not have paid sick leave. We feel that we are close to making some tentative agreements and hope to have something to present to you very soon.
Our General Chairmen and Leadership have been discussing different approaches to gain agreements on paid sick days; such as, in national negotiations, congressional action, and executive orders and currently working with the carriers to negotiate paid sick days directly.
As of today, we have met with Union Pacific, CSX-T, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and Norfolk Southern to specifically negotiate paid sick days. We will be reporting back shortly on the results of these negotiations.
