Marie and Donald have Medicare to thank for their home and health. Donald underwent back surgery after a year of excruciating pain and three cortisone shots that had no impact. Fortunately, Medicare and supplemental insurance covered all the costs.
However, only a few months later, Donald developed pneumonia from an infected knee replacement. During a two-month stay at a medical facility, he needed to be placed on an I.V. for six weeks and receive another two weeks of physical therapy. Again, Medicare covered all the costs of Donald’s treatment. If it were not for Medicare, Marie and Donald would likely have had to mortgage their house in their 80s.
“We are very pleased that Medicare takes care of us in the winter of our years,” said Marie. “Don’t let Medicare be compromised. It’s a great program that benefits so many older couples.”
