FIRE UPDATE – Monday, July 26, 2016

NEW FIRES (10 acres or larger reported on ODF-protected lands over the past 24 hours):
The Quartz Gulch Fire, 12 miles northeast of Unity in ODF’s Central Oregon District, burned about 12 acres of grass, brush and juniper Saturday afternoon. The fire is 100% contained. The cause is under investigation.

Fires on other jurisdictions
Scott Canyon Fire (Formerly Creed):
This fire is burning on BLM 20 miles east of Wasco. It is currently 33,587 acres and 75% containment. Fire behavior is minimal. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been assigned to the fire.
 
FIRE STATISTICS:
Fire statistics are for the current year and the average over the past 10 years for the 16 million acres of private and public forestland protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
January 1, 2016, through Today, July 25, 2016:
Lightning-caused fires: 46 fires burned 2,123 acres
Human-caused fires: 307 fires burned, 370 acres
Total: 353 fires burned 2,493 acres
10-year average (January 1st through the present date in the year):
Lightning-caused fires: 113 fires burned, 5,873 acres
Human-caused fires: 320 fires burned, 2,125 acres
Total: 433 fires burned, 7,998 acres
