District 15 Inks Deal With Penn National Gaming

IAM District 15 reached an agreement with Penn National Gaming to work together to foster economic development in Plainville, MA and the surrounding communities.

“We are excited to be partnering with Penn and their Plainridge Park Casino project,” said District 15 BR Jim Foley. “We believe their plan is by far the best one for the working families of Plainville, the surrounding communities, and throughout the region.”

Penn National Gaming plans to develop a $225 million slots-only facility in Plainville, and has committed to hiring up to 90 percent locally should they win a category 2 gaming license. The Surrounding Community Agreement outlines commitments by Penn National to instruct its general contractor and purchasing department to maximize use of local vendors, cross-market with local businesses and live entertainment venues, host job fairs and, support local charities and civic organizations as well as support responsible gaming programs in the area.

“Penn has an established record of working closely with local organized labor in projects across the country,” said District 15 DBR Jimmy Conigliaro. “Partnering with them to create good jobs, with good benefits is good for working families, their communities and the IAM.”
