IAM District 15’s Youth Transition to Work program will again receive funding from the New Jersey Department of Labor.
The program engages graduating high school students in automotive and diesel mechanic apprenticeships. Ira Stern, who runs the program, works with employers, schools and community colleges to help young people get a job, serve an apprenticeship and begin a career without taking on debt for education.
Earlier this year the first cadre enrolled in this program graduated from their apprenticeships. Currently over 50 young people are in the apprenticeship program and employed at IAM-represented employers.
“This program is very successful and is a shining example of how labor and management can work together to solve our skills needs,” said IAM Apprenticeships Director Jim Reid. “District 15 DBR Juan Negron, District staff and Ira Stern are to be congratulated on the continuing success of Youth Transition to Work.”
