District 751’s Susan Palmer Appointed College Trustee

Susan PalmerWashington Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed IAM District Lodge 751 Secretary-Treasurer Susan Palmer to the Renton Technical College Board of Trustees.

Palmer has long been a union and community activist. Among other activities, she currently volunteers for the American Cancer Society and is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, helping to organize District 751’s annual “Flight for Sight Fun Run.” Palmer also served on the board of the King County Airport Roundtable, as a delegate to the King County Labor Council and as Precinct Committee Officer.

“Gov. Gregoire made an excellent choice in appointing Susan Palmer to the Board of Trustees,” said Western Territory General Vice President Gary Allen. “Susan has proven over and over to be the ‘go-to’ person. Whether involved in a project she initiates, or one she’s been called upon to assist in, she gets the job done, all the while focusing on the needs of others.”

“The IAM is honored by the governor’s choice,” said Aerospace General Vice President Mark Blondin. “Susan’s dedication to working families and her community over the years has been unyielding. Renton Technical College is fortunate to have such a proud advocate for workers’ education and skills training as a member of its board.”

Hired by Boeing in 1986, Palmer soon became an active member of the IAM. She served as shop steward and held several positions in Local 751-F. In 1996, she was elected to serve as a Business Representative for District 751 and has been serving as the District’s Secretary-Treasurer since she was elected to that post in 2006.
