IAM District 77 members continued their commitment to giving back to veterans and their communities through the district’s annual HELPS Event on Aug. 9.
For the fourth consecutive year, District 77 partnered with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MAC-V), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending veteran homelessness in Minnesota. MAC-V helps veterans secure stable housing while also providing employment assistance and legal services.
Ten IAM volunteers representing Locals 112, 459, 737, 1575 and 1956 came together to complete yardwork at a veteran’s home occupied by a family of four. It was the fourth year District 77 volunteers have helped at the same location.
Working together, the volunteers spent several hours weeding, trimming bushes and tree branches, spreading new mulch, leveling steps and completing other general yard maintenance.
The teamwork made quick work of the projects, proving once again that many hands make light work.
“Our veterans have given so much in service to our country, and it is our responsibility to make sure they know their IAM family stands with them,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “District 77’s continued partnership with MAC-V is a great example of what solidarity looks like in action. Our members are not just talking about giving back, they are rolling up their sleeves and making a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families.”
In the coming weeks, District 77 will also make a donation to help the household purchase food and other essential household supplies.
MAC-V expressed its appreciation for the IAM’s continued support. District 77 plans to build on the partnership and explore opportunities to assist veterans in other parts of Minnesota, including Duluth, Mankato and St. Cloud, where MAC-V has veteran housing.
District 77 thanks all of the volunteers who donated their time and effort to this year’s HELPS Event and helped make a difference for a Minnesota veteran family.

(Honoring, Engaging, Lifting, Providing, and Servicing) in the Community encourages IAM members across North America to strengthen the communities where they live and work through volunteer service. District 6’s inaugural event marks another example of IAM members making a positive impact beyond the workplace.
