Early Retirement Medical Plan Increases Lifetime Maximum

Early Retirement Medical Plan Increases Lifetime Maximum

TCU’s negotiated medical plans for early retirees contain provisions for automatic adjustments in the lifetime insurance maximum based on medical cost inflation. Effective Jan. 1, 2004 the lifetime maximum increased from $84,100 to $88,100. The change affects members enrolled in the Railroad Employees National Early Retirement Medical Plan (GA-46000) or in an identical plan for retired Amtrak employees.

This automatic adjustment in the lifetime insurance maximum in GA-46000 was one of the benefits that TCU negotiated with the carriers when we were successful in obtaining the improvements in our Railroad Retirement pension. This early retirement medical plan provides a bridge of medical insurance coverage for those members retiring between the ages of 60 and 65 with at least 30 years of railroad service.
