If you’ve been thinking about completing your degree, now is the time to get started! The IAM has partnered with the National Labor College (NLC) to help IAM members earn a college degree. One of the requirements is an initial Port of Entry Week which IAM members can complete at the William W. Winpsinger Education and Technology Center.

The class will be offered the week of June 8, 2013 and there is still time to apply for admission to the NLC, register for the summer term and participate in the Port of Entry Week. The Port of Entry Week, where members begin the process of earning their degree, consists of two classes: Living Labor History and Reading and Writing Critically. Although the residence is June 8 to June 14, the two classes start online on May 6. Anyone interested in enrolling should do so as soon as possible.

The NLC is the only fully accredited, worker-friendly degree granting institution in North America. The IAM’s unique partnership with the NLC allows members to apply their prior learning and classes they have completed at the Winpisinger Center towards their bachelor’s degree. The National Labor College is primarily an online university; however, there is a classroom, or residency, requirement that IAM students can meet by attending the Port of Entry Week at the Winpisinger Center.

“This is truly a remarkable opportunity for our members. No other union has this kind of partnership with the NLC. Education is a defining characteristic of our great union, and the source of our growth and progress,” said International President Tom Buffenbarger. “I am proud that these opportunities exist for our members, and I hope our members take advantage of this opportunity.”
