First Annual District 5 ‘Putt for Pups’ Golf Tournament a Huge Success for Guide Dogs of America

The first annual IAM District 5 “Putt for Pups” Golf Tournament, held in International Falls, MN, raised more than $7,000 for the IAM’s favorite charity, Guide Dogs of America/Tender Loving Canines.

“District 5 is extremely grateful for all the support we received for our first annual ‘Putt for Pups,’” said IAM District 5 Directing Business Representative Jeremy Pearson. “We’re thankful for the support from the Executive Council and the Midwest Territory, along with the Communications and Woodworkers Departments. The event was more successful than we could have hoped for and we were overwhelmed by the support by the local community of International Falls. We are confident that this event will continue to evolve and become a great way to bring people together for a charity as worthy as Guide Dogs of America.”

More than 80 golfers turned out for the event, which brought together sponsors and participants from the local community and from across the IAM. After the tournament, participants gathered at the Local W33 and 760 lodge in downtown International Falls for raffles, awards and dinner.

“District 5, Local W33 and the entire International Falls community joined together to put on a great event for Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Steve Galloway. “The IAM Midwest Territory is so grateful to every sponsor, participant and volunteer who made this tremendous community event possible. The Midwest Territory, Districts and Local Lodges are proud to continue supporting Guide Dogs of America.”

GDA recently completed a merger with Tender Loving Canines, and now provides hardworking service dogs for people who are blind/visually impaired, veterans, individuals with autism, and facilities to become trusted companions that bring confidence, independence, and mobility. Their services are provided free of charge to residents in the U.S. and Canada.
