Florida District 166 Hosts Second Annual Bowling Fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America

District 166 held its second annual bowling fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Canines (GDA | TLC) in Titusville, Fla., recently.

The bowling event always takes place on National Bowling Day and raised more than $6,500 to benefit GDA | TLC.

Over 100 participants from District 166, Local 2061, Local 610, Local 773, Local 971, Local 2152, Local 2915, Local 2319, Local 2508, Local 2777, the Florida State Council of Machinists, Herndon Solutions Group, the Black Women’s Roundtable, and the Communications Workers of America came to bowl together in support of GDA/TLC.

“To have all of these people come together for such a great event is awesome,” said IAM District 166 Directing Business Representative Kevin DiMeco. “Whenever we raise money for the Guide Dogs, people want to come.”

The event raised additional money with 50/50 and union gear raffles. Florida State Council of Machinists President and District 166 President  Mike Phillips announced the winners of the raffles.

Local 2061 President and District 166 Secretary-Treasurer Michele Seeley, Local 2061 Recording Secretary and District 166 Trustee Tom Newton, and District 166 Business Representative Ed Grabowski worked together to make the event happen.

“I just hope the event grows and gets bigger every year so we can raise more money for Guide Dogs of America,” said Newton.

“I want to thank the whole team, because they do a fantastic job every year, that particular crew along with others,” said DiMeco. “They step up every time there’s anything, whether it’s a charity event for GDA or the community. These people are remarkable and work hard to make us all look good.”Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines transforms lives by providing service dogs to veterans, people who are blind/visually impaired, families affected by autism, and facilities that service people in need of support. To continue to be successful, GDA | TLC depends on the funds raised by IAM members across North America.
