Florida Substance Abuse Center Negotiates First IAM Contract

IAM Organizer Javier Almazan, right, and newly-organized employees of Tropical Wellness Center in Palm Bay, FL celebrate joining the IAM.

The IAM’s Southern Territory and District 166 in Cocoa Beach, FL have negotiated a first contract for 15 recently-organized employees at Tropical Wellness Center (TWC), LLC.

Located 90 minutes southeast of Orlando in Palm Bay, FL, the center is a Substance Abuse Day/Night and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program licensed by the state of Florida. The three-year contract includes pay raises for all employees, the IAM National Pension Plan, seniority and paid holidays, sick leave and funeral leave.

TWC management is also happy with the agreement.

“A satisfied staff working together with management is a win-win for everyone involved, and allows us to focus on the needs of our clients,” said Luis A. Delgado, CAP, Clinical Director and partner at TWC.

“This is a ground-breaking contract for the IAM in a non-traditional workplace,” said Southern Territory General Vice President Mark Blondin. “It also demonstrates that organizing with the IAM can be a win-win for company and worker alike. I commend District 166, the Negotiating Committee, and new Southern Territory Special Representative Javier Almazan in crafting this cutting-edge agreement and establishing a positive relationship with TWC.”
