GE’s recent announcement that it would be finalizing plans for a joint venture with China-owned AVIC to produce avionics systems is another example of how other countries demand the transfer of technology and production from Western companies.
For years, the IAM has sounded the alarm about giving away our jobs and leading-edge technology to other countries. “The Obama administration should rigorously apply America’s export controls to ensure that our economy and national security are not jeopardized by this deal,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger. “The administration should also make the elimination of offsets, i.e., demands for the transfer of technology and production, a priority in all of our trade negotiations.”
