IAM International President Bob Martinez announced Donna Georgallas will serve as Assistant Communications Director, effective January 1, 2016.

Georgallas succeeds the former Assistant Communications Director Bill Upton, who retired January 1, after serving in the Communications Department for 18 years.

“Donna has the experience and expertise to handle all the responsibilities of her new position. She is a true professional who knows what needs to happen and what it takes to get it accomplished,” said Martinez. “And we all owe a debt to Bill Upton, who served this union and its members as a true journeyman for more than three decades.”

Georgallas began her career in 1970, serving in a number of departments before arriving in the Communications Department in 1996 as a Communications Representative. Her duties there have ranged from serving as the IAM’s first Web Steward to coordinating conferences and teaching classes at the WWW Center.

President Martinez also announced the appointment of Andrew Hounshell as a Communications Representative. Hounshell has been an IAM member since 2006, when IAM Local 1943 was chartered following an organizing win of 2700 locked out employees at AK Steel in Middletown, OH. Hounshell has been active in his prior union as well as the IAM for over 15 years, serving in many different capacities such as Local Lodge Vice president, Delegate to the Ohio State Council of Machinist, Committeeman, Communicator, EAP Chairman, Steward and Grievanceman.

Hounshell is an Army veteran from who graduated Cum Laude with an Associate in Arts from Miami University (OH) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Labor Studies from the National Labor College.
