IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Bob Martinez recently received the “Champion for Justice” award from the United Latinos for his tireless work for Latino and labor rights in America. United Latinos President Johnny Rodriguez presented the award during the UFCW United Latinos Convention and Education Conference.

The “Champion for Justice” award is given to those showing exemplary leadership in protecting the rights of Latino workers. The award criterion states “the recipient’s work must have exposed the conditions of Latino workers which ultimately expanded labor and civil rights protections and improved the working conditions for Latino workers.”

In accepting the award, GVP Martinez remembered back to his grandfather and father’s work in the meatpacking unions. “I am blessed to say that our family has served working men and women for well over 120 years. So on behalf of my family, I wish to thank the United Latinos for this award, I am truly honored.”

GVP Martinez also serves as Vice President on the National Executive Board of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) and has been working to expand LCLAA chapters throughout the south.
