House Oversight Chairman on Partisan Warpath

Tea Party zealots and right-wing conservatives often rail over government’s supposedly heavy hand in the lives of American citizens, yet one of their favorite lawmakers has transformed his office into a veritable lobbying front for the exclusive benefit of large corporations.
As chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee, California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), has ignored real issues of concern to workers and taxpayers in favor of witch hunts to please corporate donors and extremist allies.
Among Issa’s highly selective agenda for the Oversight Committee has been the unprecedented probe into the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) complaint against the Boeing Corporation. Issa held kangaroo-court-type hearings to publically ridicule and harass the board while issuing subpoenas for sensitive documents.
Issa’s interest in the NLRB came to a screeching halt, however, when serious ethics charges surfaced over a GOP NLRB member who passed sensitive, confidential information to corporate attorneys who conduct business before the NLRB, including a former senior adviser to Mitt Romney.
