IAM District 166 Annual Toy Drive Spreads Holiday Cheer for Florida Children

IAM District 166 and its affiliated Local Lodges, along with the Florida State Council of Machinists and the Herndon Solutions Group, raised over $32,000 this season to buy Christmas gifts for children in foster care.

Throughout the year, IAM Local 2061 Tom Newton, Committee Chair of the IAM toy drive, and the Locals of District 166 come together for the children in foster care in Brevard County, Fla..

This past year, Local 2061 held a golf tournament run by James Kersey, James Macklefresh, and Troy Ogram. A fantastic BBQ was provided by the Polchlopek Family and all the stewards and local lodge officers of the district sold raffle tickets and collected donations from members to raise $32,000 for local foster children.

“I’m very proud of our members at District 166,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin. “My thanks go out to our members, their families and volunteers for making this such a successful event, for such a good cause.”

“The Brevard Family Partnership is thankful for our union as 400 kids will have gifts for the holidays,” said District 166 Directing Business Representative Kevin DiMeco. “The district would like to take this opportunity to thank recently retired Local 2061 Member Steve Ching and his partner Brenda Wall for all the years of hard work they put in for the children of our community. I would also like to thank the Florida State Council of Machinists, IAM Transportation Local 2508, Herndon Solutions Group, LCC, and Target. We also want to thank the membership for being so generous to make this happen year after year.”

Dozens of volunteers went shopping for the children’s “wish list” items provided by Brevard Family Partnership.
