Members of IAM District 9 recently donated goods to the St. James Veterans Home in St. James, MO as a part of the IAM Midwest Territory’s “IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community” program. H.E.L.P.S. stands for Honoring, Engaging, Lifting, Providing and Servicing.
District 9 surprised U.S. military veterans with three truckloads of items purchased or donated, such as drinks, snacks and personal care items. Volunteers also donated postage stamps and birdseed. Many of the veterans have bird feeders in their windows.
“My thanks go to all of our volunteers and donors,” said District 9 Community Services Chairman Scott Hargis. “This was a labor of love from the beginning, and seeing the smiles on the faces of the veterans really says it all.”
“What a great event,” said IAM District 9 DBR Dave Weaver. “This is what making a difference is all about, and no one is more deserving than our veterans.”
“I am very proud of these members,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Steve Galloway. “Giving back to our veterans whose dedication and sacrifice have preserved our nation puts service before self. My thanks goes out to all District 9 volunteers for making a difference in their communities.”
The IAM Midwest Territory, along with their Districts and Locals, has hosted more than 20 “IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community” events, with more than 450 volunteers across the Territory, to date. Each District and Unaffiliated Local is tasked with hosting at least one event per year.
