Depending on the type of applicant; area, plant, site or public sector (not federal), applicants can receive a maximum of $65,000 or a maximum of $125,000. A match of 10 percent is required if the application is successful.

The IAM has helped labor management programs win quite a few grants to jointly develop and administer training programs. For example, IAM Local 1260 and Amerequip Corp. used an FMCS grant to strengthen employee skills in internal ISO auditing, safety hazards and computer skills. IAM Local 701 with members in the automotive, trucking, forklift, heavy equipment, body shops and bus industries, used an FMCS grant to develop and deliver comprehensive updating and dedicated training to meet the needs of their trades.
