IAM Grants Members Unemployment Stamp Dispensation Through September 2020

Due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, the IAM is immediately waiving unemployment stamp requirements for members to retain membership rights. Members retain their full rights as a result of this six month dispensation of unemployment dues.

The suspension of the mandate is effective immediately and applies to dues delinquencies that begin during the months of April through September 2020.

The IAM Constitution mandates that members who are laid off and who wish to retain their membership rights must request an unemployment stamp from their Local Lodge within two months of their lay off.

This special dispensation aims to alleviate the burden on members to file for unemployment stamps while on layoff, IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr., wrote to IAM officers.

“These are extremely difficult and challenging times for the entire membership – particularly for those who have been laid off by their employers as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic,” wrote Martinez. “This is a small but important gesture to let our laid off members know that the IAM is fighting for them and their families every single day – they are not forgotten!”
