IAM Mourns the Loss of Retired DBR Phil Zannella

Long-time IAM Law Committee Chair and 48-year member Phil Zannella, Jr. passed away last week at the age of 64. Zannella first joined the IAM Law Committee in 1992 and served until his retirement in 2018.

“Our union lost a great leader with the passing of Phil Zannella,” said International President Robert Martinez Jr. “Phil was a dedicated unionist who was always there whenever called upon. He will be missed by many throughout the Machinists Union. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.”

Zannella initiated into Cleveland, OH IAM Local 1363 in 1971. The retired Local 1363 Directing Business Representative was a 2013 Guide Dogs of America Gift of Sight Award recipient. Zannella also served in many capacities with the Ohio State Council of Machinists and was the temporary chairperson of the 36th IAM Grand Lodge Convention.

Funeral services will be private. However, contributions may be made in memory of Phil to Guide Dogs of America, 13445 Glenoaks Blvd., Sylmar, CA 91342.
