IAM Renews Call for U.S. Industrial Policy

Speaking at the Conference on the Renaissance of American Manufacturing in Washington, DC, IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger said a national industrial policy was needed to jumpstart the economy and to preserve our nation’s economic future.

“There is something dramatically wrong when we have members of Congress who want to reward companies for moving work offshore, but not reward them for creating jobs here at home,” said Buffenbarger.

During his panel presentation, Buffenbarger cited a corporate culture that is far too willing to chase cheap labor around the globe, rather than focus their attention on doing everything they can to fix our economy. Buffenbarger also cited the need for stronger Buy American laws and serious reform of our trade and investment policies.

“ U.S. taxpayers want their money to create jobs in the U.S.—not China,” he said.
