IAM Retiree Coordinator Diane Fleming was on Capitol Hill twice in one week to speak on the Ryan budget and the Affordable Care Act.

IAM retiree and former United Airlines employee of 39 years Diane Fleming took to Capitol Hill to fight against cuts in Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) budget. Fleming, who came down with thyroid cancer last year, said she would be nearly through her savings if it wasn’t for Medicare, which covers her and her 92-year-old mother.

“We need to stop blaming retirees for creating this debt,” said Fleming, a retiree coordinator for the IAM. “The Ryan budget clearly chooses tax breaks for the wealthy corporations over health care for millions of working families.”

In the same week, at the invitation of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA), Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) and Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (SC), Fleming also spoke at a rally celebrating the third anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.

“It’s very simple that the solution be resolved with everyone paying their fair share,” Fleming said. “And those that have more can pay more.”
