IAM Supports Dec. 8 Prayer Vigil for Unemployed

On December 8, 2011, the IAM will join the AFL-CIO and affiliates in a National Prayer Vigil for the unemployed, demanding Congress renew unemployment insurance benefits for millions of jobless Americans.

Congress has until December 31st to extend unemployment insurance. If benefits are left to expire, as many as 6 million Americans could see their checks vanish by the end of next year.

Local State Federations, Central Labor Councils and Area Labor Federations are organizing events in Congressional districts around the country. A Washington, DC, vigil will be held on Capitol Hill at 10:45 am in the upper Senate park. Click here for details.

In the meantime, time is of the essence. Take action now by letting Congress know labor will not let lawmakers get away with abandoning millions of unemployed Americans. Send your Senators and Representative a letter demanding they extend unemployment insurance benefits for the jobless today.
