IAM’s Michael Oathout Appointed to Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health

The U.S. Labor Department has announced the appointment of IAM Director of Safety & Health, Apprenticeships and Scholarships Michael Oathout as one of 15 members of the Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH).

The committee advises OSHA on maritime issues relevant to the safety and health of employees in the maritime industry that will result in more effective enforcement, training, outreach programs and streamlined regulatory efforts.

“Brother Oathout brings a wealth of knowledge, and experience having served a previous two year term to this appointed post,” said IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. “This appointment will allow him to further support working men and women across the U.S.”

“I’m honored to hold this position on behalf of IAM members from coast to coast,” said Oathout. “The IAM has always put a precedent on the protection and safety of our members. I will continue to champion these causes for current and future Machinists.”

Members serve two-year terms beginning April 2023. They represent the interests of workers, employers, occupational safety and health professional organizations, and government. The full committee meets twice a year and the subcommittees meet monthly to work on safety topics or concerns.
